Product Description
A Nantucket basket woven around a glass oil lamp by Christa Shaw
This Nantucket basket oil lamp is one of Christa Shaw's most unusual pieces. Instead of a traditional wooden mold, she used the glass lamp itself as her form and wove the cane directly around it, finishing it on a turned hardwood base.
The result is a working oil lamp with a clear glass chimney and wick rising from a tightly woven Nantucket basket body. At 3.5 inches in diameter, it makes a warm table light and a conversation piece that joins island basketry with the glow of an old ship's lamp.
