Product Description
A sperm whale and giant squid locked in battle, carved in mammoth ivory
This mammoth ivory sperm whale and squid carving captures one of the ocean's legendary battles. The squid wraps its long arms around the whale's great square head as the whale drives forward, all carved from a single piece of mammoth ivory.
The carving is mounted on a piece of dark fossil bone, grounding the pale ivory scene. Whalers long told of scars left by giant squid on the sperm whales they hunted, and this piece brings that deep-sea struggle into view.
