This custom ivory crosscut scrimshaw was engraved by Brian Kiracofe for a good friend, who asked him to add a whale to a tusk crosscut he had owned for many years. The result is a bold sperm whale in solid black, swimming above a row of dotted accents across the pale face of the slice.
The crosscut comes from a large tusk, 5 inches in diameter, and its natural growth rings show around the edges. It is displayed upright on a stand and shows the kind of personal commission Kiracofe takes on for customers who bring in their own heirloom pieces.
