Product Description

A plank-on-frame Beetle Catboat model with a cotton cloth sail

This Beetle Catboat model recreates the broad, single-sailed catboat that has worked and raced along the New England coast for more than a century. It is built plank-on-frame, the way full-size wooden boats are built, and carries a cotton cloth sail on a tall wooden mast and boom.

The shop's display card notes mahogany plank-on-frame construction and a build date of around 1992 in Vietnam. The hull shows the warm grain and fine seams of real planking, and the running rigging, rudder, and tiller are all in place. It rests on a wooden cradle, ready for a mantel, office, or boathouse shelf.
