Ata Basket 7" Round
$70.00
Ata is a vine in the Indonesian jungle used in the construction of this basket. I travel to the village when they are made and work directly with the weavers. The weavers split the vine into four strips which are used in the weaving. The baskets are all hand woven, when finished they are dried in the hot Indonesian sun for up to a week. They then are put into a smoker which is fueled with the husks of coconuts giving them the beautiful golden color. You can still smell the slight hint of smoke. The inside of the basket is lined with another traditional craft of Batik which is the process of stamping designs onto cotton fabric.
The overall combination of crafts creates a beautiful and well as functional pocketbook.
