Each Christa Shaw Nantucket basket is hand woven around a mold on a solid wood base, in the tradition of the Nantucket lightship baskets of the 1800s. Christa is a master weaver with more than 30 years at the craft, and each of her baskets is a unique piece of art.
Look for the tightness of the weave and the straight, even line of the vertical staves, the marks of a master's hand. Choose from a 5-inch basket with a white cane band, a 5-inch or 9-inch cane basket, a 7-inch basket with a wave pattern, or a 12-inch oval with a scrimshaw set into the base. Christa is scaling back her production, making each basket harder to come by.
