Ships in bottles are handmade by craftsmen. How do they do it? Nimble fingers hand carve wooden hulls with tiny port holes and sew cloth sails onto their masts. The masts and rigging are connected with a delicate thread.
The craftsmen slide the boat, its masts and sails folded, through the neck of the glass bottle. With a gentle tug of the thread from outside of the bottle, the masts rise up and the sails unfurl – this miniature ship is ready to sail the seas. Hand made in the Philippines.
