Description
Each basket is woven by hand, and then dried under the sun for several days. After drying, they are smoked for several hours over a coconut husk fire to obtain their golden-brown color. This process leaves behind a slight, natural smoky sent, which disappears over time. Once out of the smoker, the baskets are left outside in the sun again before a handmade batik cloth lining is sewn inside. Our makers use a double of layer of batik fabric for durability. A leather strap is applied to the purses.
